Clare House Local Governing Body (LGB)

Our Remit

The LGB is made up of a team of volunteers, including staff/teacher governors, parents and members of the community who work together with the headteacher to provide strategic leadership and accountability in the school.

The LGB has three key functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
  • Hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils

The governing body ensures these functions are met through setting the aims and objectives for the school and setting the policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives.  Governors monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making and provide both support and constructive challenge to the senior leadership team.

The Clare House LGB currently has 12 members, including two-parent governors, who all attend a full meeting of the LGB once every term, twice in the autumn term. An annual full planning day is held each Autumn.

We also have two committees that report into the full LGB, the Resources Committee and the Standards Committee.

The Resources Committee ensures the school uses all its resources, including financial, in an effective way as well as meeting all standards and legal requirements. It meets four times a year.

The Standards Committee is responsible for monitoring what is taught at school and how children are progressing and achieving. The committee meets three times a year.

We have a number of other ad hoc committees that meet as and when required. Full details and terms of reference can be found in the document below.
